Vinyl started as a collage experiment with old newspaper comic strips—but it just wasn’t coming together the way I hoped. After a few rounds of frustration, I finally decided to start over and rolled a layer of black acrylic across the whole thing with a brayer. That one bold move completely changed the direction of the piece. As I kept layering and refining, bits of the original comics began to peek through, adding a sense of playfulness beneath the surface. The final painting has a structured rhythm that, for reasons I can’t quite explain, reminds me of a vinyl record—something my husband and I started collecting back before we were married. It’s a little nostalgic, a little imperfect, and somehow just right.
